Australia adheres to the highest level of GCP standards, meaning that Australian clinical data and results are accepted by international regulatory agencies, including the FDA and EMA.

Regulatory Environment

Australia’s regulatory environment uses the Clinical Trial Notification (CTN) process, allowing rapid approval by local HREC / IRB of clinical research sites to conduct early phase clinical trials. The process doesn’t require IND submission prior to commencing the trial, even for First Time in Human or proof of concept studies.

Approval by HRECs generally takes 4-6 weeks, compared to 4-6 months by the FDA.

Investment Incentives

The Australian Government has an extremely generous R&D Tax Incentive, encouraging industry investment.

The Incentive provides a 43.5% refundable tax offset on R&D for companies with an aggregated turnover of less than A$20 million, and 40% for all other eligible companies.

It provides for increased access by international companies. In particular - there is no requirement to hold the IP in Australia.
